Unusual Home Plans

Are you bored with the traditional and want to live in a home with an unusual home plan? Unusual home plans are becoming more accepted in most parts of the world.

Unusual home plans exist all over the world. What is considered unusual in one area, might be considered typical in other. For the most part, unusual home plans fall into two categories. In the first, the actual layout of the home is unusual. For instance, most traditional homes have the common areas, such as the living room, kitchen and dining room, on the first floor. A home with an unusual plan might put the bedrooms on the first floor and have the common areas on the second floor. This might be done to capitalize on a great view of the ocean or mountains or simply for a change of pace.

The second type of unusual home plan is a home that is not built in a traditional home area. These homes can be placed on top of mountains, out in the middle of lakes, or underground. While most of these homes are built to showcase an architect's particular talents, some people choose these homes out of privacy or environmental concerns. If you are interested in purchasing these types of homes, you will need to be prepared to spend quite a lot. The unique nature of these homes tends to drive up the price.

Some homes that are historic in nature might also have an unusual home plan. This could be due to the difference in lifestyle between when the house was built and when now. It could also be because over the years, people have added onto the home, blocking off fireplaces or adding new rooms. If you own a home like this, you might be able to do some research and find original pictures or blueprints of the home. Many homeowners have discovered things in the home, like dumb waiters or ornate fireplaces that are lying hidden behind drywall. Remodeling the home could bring these things back to life.

If you are building or purchasing a home with an unusual home plan, make sure that all the construction complies with building codes. Have the wiring and plumbing checked out to insure that is up to standard as well. Even if your home has an unusual layout or features, make sure that things such as water heaters, pipes and circuit breakers are easily accessible in case you need to do repairs.
