Whether you are building a new home or moving into a pre-existing home, knowing how best to deal with a small home plan is important.
Small homes can bring with them a lot of benefits. Smaller homes are easier to heat and cool. They also require less upkeep. Decide what is important to you. Are you willing to sacrifice on the number of bedrooms as long as the kitchen is large? Are you happy with one bathroom as long as you have an extra bedroom for guests? Make sure you examine the home just as you would a larger home. Check the roof, wiring, windows and flooring. Just because the home is smaller does not mean you will not stuck with large repair bills if something goes wrong.
If you are building a home with a small home plan, you have opportunities to make the most out of your space. Again, you will want to prioritize what is most important to you. Be smart about your design. Provide spaces for large closets. Consider additional storage spaces such as built-in entertainment centers, linen closets, extra shelving in the bathroom and in the closets.
Once you are ready to move in, you will want to maximize your living space. There are many ways to create additional storage space in a home with a small home plan. Put lifts underneath your bed. This will create a large storage space that would normally not be utilized. You can purchase special boxes designed for under bed use. Put items such as off-season clothes and extra blankets in this space. Use over the door racks in your closet to store shoes, belts, purses or ties. Consider adding a second clothes bar so that you can hang your pants. Store kitchen utensils in decorated containers on the counter instead of taking up drawer space.
A house with a small home plan can be a cozy, comforting place. As long as you utilize the space you have, keep the home uncluttered and tidy, and plan for additional storage space, you will find your smaller house a great place to call home.
